What it is

Seiryū is the azure dragon, guardian of the east, who answers for spring, for wind and for water in motion. In the garden he is read through a channel: a dry stream laid with pebbles winds between the stones like the body of a dragon.

Karikomi is the technique of clipping shrubs and conifers into dense, flowing volumes. It gives the garden what scales give the dragon: an unbroken form that holds all year round.

How ours is made

A dry stream, spruces in the karikomi technique, a suikinkutsu by the hill.

The most “mobile” of the three gardens: the channel sets the direction of the gaze and leads it inwards.
